how to know what counts

Writer: annie wheatannie wheat

specks of joy can be hard to come by around west point's winter time, most particularly, when one finds themselves on crutches post surgery amidst an ice storm.

our kb is finding these - bits and pieces, however.

- wearing a singular spunky sock

- afternoon spent with a man of dreams

- perfectly cracking her neck

- unfurling a yoga mat

- creating a feeling on a journal page

- cleaning the room

- rearranging her flowers

- resting her foot on the leg of the chair

- reaching for a new idea

- smiling up from freshly planted words

- a quick retort from across the room

- a lovenote from a friend

- absorbing new melodies

- exploring big questions

- a new candle

- tea, innocently steaming & within reach

these additions don't wipe the physical pain, emotional frustration and present limitations that glare right at her, but she shines her light back in the face them, anyway.
